According to Dr. Arthur Kleinman, a psychiatrist and medical anthropologist at Harvard Medical School, 8-12% of women (and a few men) with chronic pain also suffer from a somatization disorder. Recurrent physical complaints lead to repeated visits to health professionals but are apparently unrelated to any bodily ailment.
